Mlaga Mountain Wines are a very nearly forgotten style, grown on very steep schist slopes at an altitude of 500-1000m. The Moscatel grapes (Muscat of Alexandria) are grown and harvested from incredibly old bush vines at optimum ripeness, without any rot. Once picked, the grapes are dried for one week on drying racks to become partially raisined, before being pressed to stainless tank for fermentation.
The result is a delicately sweet wine with floral and marmalade notes underpinned by fresh honeycomb and shale minerality. A wonderful and rare alternative to Sauternes.
